INTRODUCTION:
– Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a slightly sweet aroma. It is also known by other names such as benzyl alcohol, benzenemethanol, or phenylcarbinol. Benzyl alcohol is naturally derived from fruits (commonly apples, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, peaches, tea, blueberries, and apricots, etc.). Additionally, it can be found in various essential oils, including jasmine, hyacinth, neroli, rose, and ylang-ylang.
– Moreover, through natural chemical reactions, benzyl alcohol can be synthesized by hydrolyzing benzyl chloride using sodium hydroxide. This method was discovered in the 1800s during the development of the plastics and dye industries.
